EnergyExplorium at McGuire Nuclear Station

Located on Lake Norman, the EnergyExplorium offers hands-on exhibits, a one-mile long nature trail, wildlife habitats, picnic facilities, a movie about Lake Norman and a self-guided tour through the facility. All programs are free to the public.

McGuire is a W.A.I.T. – Wildlife and Industry Together – site. Much of the 700-acre site has been transformed into a sanctuary for birds, butterflies and small animals. Visitors can enjoy our mile-long nature trail or relax beside Lake Norman and enjoy the many butterflies who frequent our butterfly garden.

Directions
Approximately 15 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina. Coming from Charlotte, Take I-77 North to exit 25. Turn left at the top of the ramp. If you're coming from Mooresville, take I-77 South to exit 25 and turn right at the top of the exit ramp. We are located six miles west on highway 73, at McGuire Nuclear Station and Lake Norman. NOTE: Please do not follow the directions provided by MapQuest or other Internet mapping programs.

Mission
To provide a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages who want to learn more about energy generation and conservation in an environmentally-friendly setting offering lake views and a nature walk.

Cost of Programs/Admission
Free; reservations are suggested for groups of 10 or more.

Accessibility
The EnergyExplorium parking lot, exhibit area, auditorium, picnic area and deck are handicapped accessible.
