Sustainable building design, rain gardens and a wetland. Most programs free of charge. Hands-on activities allow visitors to practice technology skills in the field and learn how wildlife scientists collect data and do research. Regular calendar of events and classes for the public, preschool through senior citizen. Group programs available on-site or through distance learning. Teacher workshops available on-site or as outreach. Individuals or small groups can visit our interactive exhibit hall where touchscreen computers and other technologies will help them explore the species and habitats of the Piedmont, including wildlife in urban settings. The Wildlife Explorer Program with self-directed booklet of activities is available for parents with children in grades K-5.

Mission
To increase awareness and understanding of natural resources, build an appreciation of the outdoors and develop stewardship of North Carolina’s wildlife.

Cost of Programs/Admission
Admission and most programs are free of charge. Call for information on public programs. Group leaders should contact the Center at least one month in advance to schedule a program for your group. All programs done on-site at the Center. Distance learning programs available for those who cannot visit the Center. Outreach services (workshops and consultations) are available to teachers and other adult educators

Features
The Center is located in the Wildlife Commission’s headquarters building. This sustainable building – the first of its kind on the NCSU campus – includes rain gardens and a wetland that work together to manage stormwater runoff while also providing wildlife habitat. A greenway connects the Center to other sections of Centennial Campus including North Creek, Walnut Creek and Lake Raleigh. A variety of urban wildlife is easily seen such as deer, beaver, raccoons, rabbits, foxes, hawks, geese, herons and songbirds.

Accessibility
The sustainable building, exhibits and classrooms fully comply with ADA accessibility guidelines. Paved sidewalks provide viewing access to the rain gardens and a wetland. The Center is connected to an accessible greenway that links various natural habitats on Centennial Campus.
