The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) at the Cherry Research Farm in Goldsboro, North Carolina, is dedicated to developing farming systems that are environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable. Established in 1994, CEFS is owned and operated by the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services' Research Station Division, in a unique partnership with N.C. State University, NC A&T State University, and several non-profits. The 2,000-acre Center's major research goal is to identify productive and profitable farming practices and systems that will benefit water quality, reduce soil erosion, improve soil quality, enhance wildlife populations, and help support rural communities. CEFS hosts many educational activities throughout the year, including field days for farmers and extension agents, public tours, and a summer internship program for students from across the country.
