Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, a 13,900 acre reservoir with 150 miles of shorline, consists of nine recreational areas: Crosswinds Campground, Ebenezer Church, New Hope Overlook, Parkers Creek Campground, Poplar Point Campground, Robeson Creek, Seaforth, Vista Point and White Oak. With over one thousand campsites, picnicking & swimming areas, fishing, boating and hiking trails ranging from 1 mile to over 5.4 miles, Jordan Lake offers visitors a variety of options to enjoy nature. Programs are available for the general public and for organized groups throughout the year. The environmental education program for school groups centers around a curriculum packet called the Environmental Education Learning Experience (EELE). The EELE contains pre-visit, on-site and post-site activities that focus on the park's unique natural features and are correlated to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction objectives. Contact the park for more information about the park's EELE and other environmental education programs and activities or visit our website at http://www.ncparks.gov

Mission
The North Carolina State Parks System exists for the enjoyment, education, health and inspiration of all our citizens and visitors. The mission of the state parks system is to conserve and protect representative examples of the natural beauty, ecological features and recreational resources of statewide significance; to provide outdoor recreational opportunities in a safe and healthy environment; and to provide environmental education opportunities that promote stewardship of the state's natural heritage.

Cost of Programs/Admission
Usually free. The park areas charge an entrance fee from Memorial Day through Labor Day. If an activity is held in one of the park areas an entrance fee will be charged. There is no charge for the Visitor Center.

Features
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is one of the largest summertime homes of the Bald Eagle east of the Mississippi. Join the staff for interpretive programs about the bald eagle conducted throughout the year, usually during summer months.

Accessibility
Visitor Center is fully accessible with a paved walkway to a pier overlooking the lake. Other accessible facilities include picnic shelters, swim beaches and campsites.

Additional
The new Visitor Center includes an auditorium, classroom and exhibit hall, with the theme "We all live down stream." To arrange a special exploration of Jordan Lake State Recreation Area for your group or class, contact the park office. A favorite is the C.A.S.T. (Catch a Sure Thing) program, teaching children ages 6-12 how to fish.
