


The North Carolina Arboretum is an affiliate institution of the University of North Carolina. Guided and self-led educational opportunities are at the heart of the Arbroretum's mission. Guided garden walks, bonsai garden tours and other adult educational opportunities, along with Segway property tours, are offered on a routine basis. Other adult education programs are offered and are promoted seasonally. A summer-long youth discovery day camp program runs from June through early August, and includes topics for children grades pre-k through 7th grade on wilderness skills, field botany, wildlife biology, ecology and heritage. School field trip programs that meet NC Science Competencies are offered for pre K through 12th grade on topics such as local wildlife, stream ecology, weather and climate, botany, air quality and dendrology. Seasonal rotating exhibits also include additional guided programs. Self guided visits are also available, and may include teaching materials. Other programs such as scout advancement programs, "Wee Naturalist" program for pre-k children and parents as well as birthday parties are also offered to the public.

MissionLocated in the inspirational Southern Appalachian Mountains, the North Carolina Arboretum cultivates connections between people and plants through creative expressions of landscape demonstration, education, economic development, conservation and research.
Cost of Programs/AdmissionThere is a $6.00 per car parking fee Wednesdays through Mondays. Many adult programs offered on a routine basis are free of charge. Two free youth programs are offered to NC schools each week, by registration only and on selected topics for selected grades. Other school groups programs are offered at a fee of $5.00 per students, with no charge for adults or parking when preregistered. Other fees for other programs may apply. Please inquire
FeaturesThe arboretum features world-class garden and landscape exhibits, a bonsai garden, production greenhouse, and over 10 miles of hiking and biking trails.
AccessibilityAll buildings and many outdoor areas are wheelchair accessible.
